Directional Bore Superintendent

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the correct management of the drilling operations by optimizing the assets and equipment and supervising the execution of the activities of his/her subordinates;
  • Verify the maintenance routines of the drilling equipment/assets are appropriate and they guarantee an efficient performance of the drilling activities;
  • Be familiar with the established well control procedures;
  • Be familiar with the established drilling operational procedures;
  • Ensure reporting routines are fulfilled;
  • Verify the stock level of spare parts and consumables for the drilling equipment on the rigs of his/her competence are kept at an appropriate level;
  • Cooperate with the rig site personnel in performing the rig moving activities by supervising the activity of his subordinates;
  • Be safety conscious in all his work and behavior;
  • Call for / Participate to investigations in case of serious incidents, Underground Tickets & Permits;
  • Apply and ensure the correct application of prescribed safety standards and regulations;
  • Verify proper housekeeping is maintained on the rig site

Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Drilling Superintendent for 10 or more years with an independent or major oil company.
  • Having work experience as a tool pusher or above for a drilling contractor a preferred plus.
  • Have extensive industry training and a valid well control certification.
  • Have detailed and demonstrated technical knowledge of drilling horizontal
  • Have detailed and hands on experience drilling directional wells along with a detailed understanding of directional drilling techniques and equipment.
  • Have detailed understanding of drill bits, drilling motors and the relation of the drilling rig circulating system to these tools.
  • Have detailed understanding and hands on experience with various weighted and non-weighted mud systems. Experience with oil-based mud and water-based mud.
  • Be familiar with cost reporting and cost verification as it pertains to approval of company expenditures.

Have demonstrated the ability to manage multiple drilling rigs at one time in a safe and cost-effective manner.

Directional Bore Operator

Responsibilities:

  • Operate Horizontal Directional Drill – May drive equipment to job site – Confirms with locator/lead the bore path to drill Set equipment up including the drill, alarm, water tanks and grounding the machine – Drill out following the predetermined drill path to the exit pit – Communicate with the locator/lead via radio to confirm the location of the drill head – Assist with the install of proper puling gear and hook up product – Reverse process to install product – Oversee laborers and/or crew member’s work and monitor time usage – Conduct post-job quality checks – Clean, check fluid levels and conduct a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to assure your vehicle/equipment is performing at optimum safety, perform the required pre-trip, post trip inspections and the required paperwork, perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipment.

Communicates with Supervisor daily to turn in required paperwork (i.e. Dailies, labor hours, bore logs, vehicle maintenance reports, etc.) – Follows specifications for the job and company policies – Complies with safety procedures while driving and at job site – Strive for optimal production while working safely and performing quality work – At end of workday, truck and equipment should be returned to shop and secured. Vehicles and equipment to be kept clean and secured.

Qualifications:

  • 1 to 3 years demonstrated Horizontal Directional Drilling experience – Strong knowledge of underground utilities – 2 to 3 years demonstrated experience in dry utilities preferred – Knowledge of underground pot holing is a plus – Working knowledge of DOT regulations (Vehicle and Operator Qualifications) – Understanding of client and company work specifications – Ability to comply with the “Operator’s Manual” for your particular equipment – Self-motivated, safety, quality and production minded – Ability to read and comprehend and follow all quality/safety policies and procedures.
